Inside/Outside Tinnitus (Hope is Music)
These six drawings explore internal sounds of tinnitus and how I balance this with actively seeking out positive sounds, with this series it is music. Music adds coloured layers of sounds to the monotone blanket of dull tinnitus sounds I experience in my inner sound world. I balance the negativity of the of the tinnitus with the positive and varied notes of the music which also increases my positive emotional experiences refocusing my attention to the external world.
At night I accept that the tinnitus is simply there and have trained myself to imagine the music I often listen to in the day. I then let the music lead me to other thoughts and places. The drawings explore how tinnitus is like an inner landscape of the varying sounds that I experience.
One of the ways I help manage my tinnitus experiences is to imagine blending the sounds with music. I cannot control tinnitus but I can choose what I listen to and how I react. Tinnitus is hidden and can be hard to manage but finding what helps is achievable keeping informed about tinnitus and finding for yourself what helps and sharing this with others.
