About Me/Info

Debbie Perry
Most days I am to be found 'Being Quietly Creative' in my studio at home in Buckinghamshire. I live next door to a farm (sheep, cows, donkeys) and have far reaching views to the woods beyond (a forever changing backdrop) and lots and lots of sky in which to dream.

My inspiration is Nature  and the Seasons and I see myself as living in two worlds - an inner world of imagination, a place to create calm and stillness - and my outer world, that of Nature, the Natural world in which we live; the Seasons, sky, earth, rain, the breeze...

I draw and paint mainly in acrylic  on Gesso primed wooden panels and I draw in pen and ink on paper, from Nature and Imagination. I  make mixed- media pictures combining collage using acrylic painted acid- free tissue paper. I like to combine different methods, materials and experiment.

I love colour and building up layers, creating abstracts and creating narratives or stories.

I make archival prints of my illustrations using my Epson Printer and archival paper which I sell through Etsy.

I teach in Adult Education and also teach on a 1:1 basis in my studio. I am an encouraging tutor and teach the principles of drawing through a variety of drawing exercises. So no matter where you are starting from you will be able to improve and develop your work.

I have taken part in the outdoor art fair 'Art on the Street', Bucks Open Studios and exhibited my work locally and also London. My work ranges from large scale backdrops for theatre productions to mini wooden panels 6 x 4 ins.

My Background:
I studied drawing at Wimbledon School of Art, Sir John Cass School of
Art, and Bucks New University. Also with artists Lorna Minton and Nicola Slattery
I started out as theatre professional directing and designing in Fringe theatre in London and teaching, after my degree and drama school. Then I cared for my parents and worked as a Horticulturist, (I met my husband when I was driving a tractor!;) returning to my childhood love of drawing and Nature. Now I am a full time artist, illustrator, teacher in Adult Education, mother, wife and owner of two Jack Russell xs so I get plenty of exercise :)

I have studied Mindfulness Meditation (MBSR) and practice regularly. I have an interest in Positive Psychology and plan to study further in the future.

I love wide open spaces, stillness, walking, writing Morning Pages (Julia Cameron The Artists' Way), reading, and would love a studio by the sea to live and work in. I listen to music all the time when in my studio which often feeds into my work. Words also inspire me.
