About Me/Info

Debbie Perry
About Me:
Most days I can be found Being Quietly Creative in my studio at home in Buckinghamshire. I live next door to a farm (sheep, cows, donkeys) and have far reaching views to the woods beyond (a forever changing backdrop) and lots and lots of sky and wide open space which I need.

Making Pictures:
My inspiration comes from Nature  and the Seasons.  I create mixed media illustrations on wooden panels using acrylic and acrylic painted acid free tissue paper. I also draw on paper using acrylic inks and pastels. I paint abstract landscapes on gesso primed wooden panels using Golden acrylics.
I like to combine: Making Pictures-Nature-Calm-Memory-Imagination-Words-Landscapes-Positive Psychology and I am keen to promote taking the time to be still and quiet to look at the world around you. I am searching for Quiet in Stillness.

I teach in Adult Learning and for self -development workshops and also teach on a 1:1 basis in my studio. I am an encouraging tutor and teach the principles of drawing and painting through a variety of drawing /painting exercises. So no matter where you are starting from you will be able to improve and develop your work.

I am currently Art Tutor at Henley College teaching the Adult Beginners Class. I have been involved for two years as an Art Tutor with the Adult Dyslexia Centre, Maidenhead as part of their self development programme.

I have taken part in the outdoor art fair 'Art on the Street' Maidenhead, Bucks Open Studios and exhibited my work locally and also London. My work ranges from large scale backdrops for theatre productions to mini wooden panels 6 x 4 ins.

Where to buy:
Archival Prints of my work can be found in my Etsy Shop. Please contact me for prices of my original paintings.

Community Events:
I have been involved with Community Theatre in High Wycombe and London and recently have been involved with Bisham Open Gardens and Love Marlow where I have run Art Activities.

I am currently studying for a Masters Degree in Positive Psychology with Bucks New University  (MAPP) and I plan to combine art and positive psychology to provide personal development courses, workshops and individual coaching sessions.

My Background:
I studied drawing at Wimbledon School of Art, Sir John Cass School of
Art, and Bucks New University. Also with artists Lorna Minton and Nicola Slattery.

I started out as theatre professional directing and designing in Fringe theatre in London and also teaching after gaining a  degree in Performing Arts followed by drama school where I  studied directing.

I later cared for my parents and worked as a Horticulturist, (I met my husband when he taught me to drive a tractor! ;)   I also returned to my childhood love of drawing and Nature to combat anxiety and emotional stress.

What I also Love:
I have studied Mindfulness Meditation (MBSR) and practice regularly.  I study and practice Tai Chi. I have two Jack Russell X 's  so  I also get to walk quite a bit in the Countryside.

I love wide open spaces, stillness, walking, writing Morning Pages (Julia Cameron The Artists' Way), reading, and would love a studio by the sea to live and work in. I listen to music all the time when in my studio which often feeds into my work. Words also inspire me.

I believe the Arts contribute to Wellbeing and Spiritual Growth. Creativity can be used as a 'door' to self development and fulfilment.
